5 DEAD AS CULT CLASH

Its really a suprise when the news got to me that not less than 5 students where shot dead when a fight broke out between two rival cult groups believed to be the Eiye confraternity and the buccaneers at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State in the Early ours of february 1st.

I wouldn't have believed it if I were to be told that cult gangs still exist in Nigeria prior to getting this news. The clash broke out when a member of the buccaneers was shot be an Eiye, as is the usual case with cult groups, the buccaneers went for a revenge which resulted in the death of 5 people who could not be confirmed if they are members or not members of the cult groups.

The police have come into the matter and assured the general public that normancy would be restored to the place in due course.

Students Unhappy About ASUU DECISION

Students Unhappy over ASUU's decision.

Majority of the viewers who voted at education-nigeria.blogspot.com believes ASUU are too incompetent to call off the strike action whilst their request have not been met by the federal government in their 2 months sit at home competition.

A viewer reported that his exam comes up in two days time as fixed by his institution whereas all he could remember was being at a club with his friend a night before the strike was called off the following day.

The viewers were very pissed off with ASUU for not seeking their(the students) consent before calling of the strike. He also likened them to the Federal government whom he says does things at their own time and for their own selfish interest while making us to believe we are fighting for a common goal. He says "The union calls for strike when they please and calls it off when it pleases them or they have been well rested and are ready to take Nigerian Universities further down the world university ranking.

If truth should be told, we believe that the union have started bitting of more than they can possibly chew, they toy with our education as though ours guardians aint toiling to pay our bills. Another viewer summarised his regrets over ASUU's consistent strike when he said; "My friend who is a student of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra state(Currently not under ASUU) is graduating this year while he I am just about to resume for his second semester in his second year" whereas we were both admitted at the same time.

If we are to compare various institution(which I am currently working on), we would see clearly to decide if the union(ASUU) has been of more Good than harm to member universities. The university of Calabar(ASUU registered) is yet to register students for its new section, and I honestly do not think it has concluded its previous(2010/2011) academic session while the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, is getting ready to take their second semester examination for the(2011/2012) academic session in few weeks. From the above example, what do you think of ASUU?

I NEED YOUR HONEST OPINION IN THE COMMENT BOX TO INCLUDE IN MY NEXT EDITORIAL. PLEASE COMMENT WITH YOUR NAME AND INSTITUTION.

The next editorial post titled: "ASUU- ASSISTANCE OR MEANANCE. From the students and universities view." Would focus on what they have achieved since the inception of the union.

JAMB EXTENDS REGISTRATION DATE

The registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board just revealed that the registration deadline for the 2012 Unified tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME) has been adjourned despite revealing earlier that it would not be shifted.

This I believe is as a result of the recent Strike actions by various boards in the country so as to enable students complete their registration.

The date of the exam however would not be shifted and still remains march 24th. The new extended deadline is the 2nd of march.
