ASUU's DECISION STILL UNKNOWN

ASUU DECIDES: SUSPENSION OR CONTINUATION OF STRIKE

The board of The Academic Staff Union of Universities are billed to meet with their National Executive Council yesterday to decide on the possible suspension/continuation of the strike, but results of the meeting as at this minute has not been made public keeping students in suspense.

An Unconfirmed source yesterday revealed that They (ASUU) have decided to suspend the strike action but the details are not verified and wasn't disclosed on the news yesterday, Neither did it appear in any of the National Newspapers. The source who quoted that his news was taken from the unions Twitter account but at this moment still remains unverified.

The students hope for an urgent resolution to the 2 months old strike as Academic activities has been grounded all over the country throughout the New year.

Details of the Decision would be coming your way as soon as it is verified by the Union.

Newcastle University Scholarship

The university of Newcastle UK is set to award 2 excelling Student of the Newcastle University Nigeria for Post graduate or Research programmes. The scholarship applies to student from the;

• Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social sciences.
• Faculty of Science
• Faculty of Agriculture
• Faculty of Engineering
• Faculty of Medical Sciences

Scholarship would be awarded to the best Qualified student with best personal statement in consultation with the head of international recruitment and faculty representatives.

Eligible candidates for Scholarship includes those Who;

• Have been offered a place in the University to study in the Faculties above.
• Are Nigerian nationals & have been accessed as international for fees purposes
• Have a First class degree from a recognised Nigerian University and satisfy other requirement
• Are self-funding & not under any Scholarship
• Intend to start their studies in the 2012/2013 session.


The scholarships are worth £3,000 payable in your first year of study.

Application deadline is 30th june 2012.

About Scholarship

The International Office at Newcastle University, UK will award 2 Newcastle University Nigeria Scholarship (NU Nigeria Scholarship) awards to high achieving Nigerian students applying for entry onto postgraduate taught degree or research programmes within the Faculties of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences (HASS), Science, Agriculture and Engineering (SAgE), and Medical Sciences (FMS) commencing their studies in September 2012.

By what Criteria is Selection Made?

Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of best qualified students and content of personal statement – in consultation with Head of International Recruitment and faculty representatives.

Who is qualified to apply?

You could be eligible to apply for a NU Nigeria Scholarship if:

You have been offered a place on any postgraduate degree programme in the faculties of HASS,  SAgE or FMS

You are a Nigerian national and have been assessed as international/overseas for fees purposes.

You have a First Class Bachelors degree from a recognised Nigerian University and satisfy all other requirements

You intend to register to start your studies during the 2012-13 academic year

You are a self-funded student and not in receipt of other University or external awards

How Many Scholarship Positions are available? Two

What are the benefits?

Each scholarship will have a value of £3,000, payable towards the first year of tuition fees.

The financial award is onetime money to support postgraduate programme
